Kuching – Kuala Lumpur

Halloww there! Sorry guys and girls I rarely updated my blog. I am kinda lack of idea, don’t know what to write for my blog. Yeap, that is one of my most bad attitude, LACK OF IDEA AND CREATIVITY. Sad right? When it comes to decision making, sometime I ask others (family and friends) to decide/suggest it for me.

Okay then. Let me start with my own story about my journey from my beloved hometown Kuching to Kuala Lumpur. One month (perhaps) before flying to KL, my besties (Hadri a.k.a Daim and Hadeeah Najwa a.k.a Hana) and me book the cheapest ticket flight to KL. As it is for semester break, Daim and Hana back to their hometown in KL (huntonglarr). As for me? My purpose on going to KL is for doing part-time job with Daim.

*In KL I’m staying at Daim’s house*

Our boarding pass

pre-flight

Our flight departed at 7.15 early in the morning, on 13th October. I like early morning flight ^_^ Our flight MH2505 to KUL has inflight entertainment (IFE) (luckily we board MAS’ new aircraft B737-800).

before departure ^_^

*Daim seems don’t like to watch safety demonstration video, he preferred the manual one.hehe*

We only have one hour fifteen minutes minus taxiing, departing and landing time to enjoy it. The meal? I opted for Nasi Lemak. At that time I was craving for RICE, especially fried rice, but I’m okay with Nasi Lemak. Daim and Hana opted for Chicken Beehoon (if I not mistaken).

our inflight entertainment a.k.a IFE

The ticket price? RM120/one-way only maaaa including tax.. Luggage Allowance of 30kg plus meal plus IFE plus the friendliness of stewardess plus the seat comfort ^_^
*last time MAS offer 20kg, now 30kg. Good job MAS*

*Goodbye Mama and my sis at Kuching T_T*

One hour and fifteen minutes passed, we finally landed at KLIA. Hello KL! :D

Hana fetched by her brother while Daim and me use bus to KL Sentral. Hope that we go back KCH later we can use KLIA Express or ERL ^_^

*bus fare KLIA – KL Sentral only RM10 per one way, quiet cheap*

*Kuching International Airport did not offer this, only can rely on taxis to travel to the city centre*

*sorry to say that, but it is fact and I am Kuchingites*

Last Day of Before Raya Break (Quiz -> Sungkey/Breaking Fast -> Tutti Frutti -> Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri)

Quiz at morning just now difficult like a hell -.-“ the subject is Building Services. As I wrote on the previous post, I did not study any on that subject before quiz. It’s all about mechanical ventilation, all about air-conditioning. Most probably I will fail my quiz -.-“

My friend, Daim and me had our last Sungkey or Berbuka Puasa at The Summer mall without the two girls, Jati and Hadeeah a.k.a Hana, as they went back earlier to their hometown in Selangor/KL. Untong larrr naik flight balik hometown..huhu.

How sad because today is my last sungkey and Ramadhan together with them in diploma…in UiTM Samarahan. As I will have my practical on part/semester 5 later, this is coincidence with the month of Ramadhan next year. Hope we might continue again when we entering Degree at UiTM Shah Alam.  Such a memorable month with them J Gonna miss the bazaar Ramadhan at Desa Ilmu. Fasted with them for 19 days only.

After that, we had our Tutti Frutti. I am addicted to Tutti Frutti. The good news is we got 10% discount for student on weekday :D How lucky we are J It is my treat. By the way, thanks to the akak cashier for her friendly service.

10% student discount on weekdays only

My mum has sent some Raya cakes/biscuits to my Mirian friend, Batrisya at airport, to thank her family for gave me place to stay at Miri. Don’t get me wrong, I slept at her brother room. Thanks to Batrisya family for their kindness and warm hospitality :D

To the Malay, especially Sarawakian Malay and the non-Sarawakian Malay residing in Sarawak, Raya is incomplete without Kek Lapis Sarawak. The West Malaysian and Sabahan Malay will buy Kek Lapis Sarawak and sometimes Ikan Terubok Masin before going back to their hometown for Raya or long holiday, and buy as much as they can to give to their relatives and neighbour. Only the 'wet' cake one is recommended to buy, not the 'dry' one, as it is more tasty to eat and sometimes melt in the mouth. How proud am I as Sarawakian :D

Kek Lapis Sarawak

Anyway, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri or Happy Eid Mubarak to all my Muslim friends and have a safe journey.

Yesterday’s Tests – Today’s Quiz – Injection – Tomorrow Quiz

Yesterday (30 July) my class having two tests at morning. The first one is Building Construction 3; the second one is Builders’ Estimating. Thank God I study both two subjects although done it last minute.

I managed to write a short note on Building Construction 3, with reference from the notes that given from my lecturer, Sir Saidi. And I can revise my own notes without any problem at all, because it is short and precise. But I did not write a short note for Builders Estimating, time constraint is the reason for me.

Both of the tests I can answer them without any problem, and I just hope my answers are mostly correct. Some of the questions that I cannot answer I will answer them using common sense, at least I t make sense to the questions and there is a little mark given by the lecturer.

Today’s (31st July) quiz was held at the afternoon, the subject is Building Science. As usual the quiz given by Ms Balkhiz there is cross-word part. Managed to answer all the questions, and but one of the answer I cannot get from the cross-word. And after quiz Ms Balkhiz told us that next time must write the explaination in point form, not essay form. I should think about that before I write.LOL. After that our class dismissed earlier.

While at morning, while my friend Daim and me was asleep, someone knocked our door. At first, I thought it was spot check. But the one who knocked the door is nurse..male nurse, ask us whether we had our Rubella injection.. WAIT!!! AM I WRONGLY HEARD??? RUBELLA INJECTION?? SUPPOSED THAT INJECTION FOR GIRLS ONLY RIGHT?? The injection was held at the lobby of Kolej Seri Mulu Block 2. I think the male nurse give us the wrong information to us -.-“ The injection I think it is for the demam campak..i think so..measles fever in English?

Me and Daim are having injection ^_^

Tomorrow quiz (1st August) (should be today as I write this blog at 1 am) my class will having the last quiz before Raya, which is Building Services. OMG. I have not study any yet. Hope there is open book quiz :D

Class – HEP – Hostel – 3 Test before Raya

I cannot even focus much during in class (Builders Quantities) and I do not know what the hell I am learning. I was absent the class last week to attend the commemoration of Sarawak Independence at Kuching Waterfront. So, I missed the last week’s lecture.

While during BEL class, we were asked by our lecturer, Miss Audrey, to discuss about the topic given for speaking test. Okay, the speaking test seems easy to me but I become almost speechless when giving my own opinions. Oh come on Josh, you should do better than that -.-“

Our class ended earlier at 12pm, and then we have a chit chat with our Part 2 junior. They will have their BEL class on 2pm, and to my surprise they have their BEL class at BLOCK G!!?? Why not Block M? And IDA Part 1 Building class at Block B. Okay, just accept the fact. And we will move to the new campus by next semester.

Before going back to hostel, I follow my friends, Hadri, Zaty and Dani to HEP Block (Hal Ehwal Pelajar/Students' Affair) to take their approval letter of their course’s activity at Tunas Bakti. Sadly, the budget that they get is far less than they apply.

At front of Dewan Jubli, waiting the time to walk to HEP

Zaty, me, Daim and Dani

*Damn hot during evening just now!*

Almost all of the courses in UiTM having tests before Raya break. What a nightmare for almost all students when it comes to TEST!!! But some of my tests will be held after Raya.

Today morning (30st July 2013) my class will have two tests, that is, Building Construction 3 and Estimating. I hope I can read all the notes given by my lecturer. The following day is Building Science’s test.

My notes for my test on morning

Most of my lecturers go back to their hometown by 1st of August to West Malaysia for Raya. So there will be no class on Thursday :D

Puasa Penuh.. Full Fasting

It is been almost 13 days of the month of Ramadhan I fast or puasa in Malay, follow my Muslim friends. I fast just because want to save budget on food especially. During the month of Ramadhan, I woke up early morning with my Muslim roomates to have sahur, and sometimes we did not manage to wake up..fasting without having sahur.

Until now I suffer no gastric at all. But sadly I always drink less mineral water during sahur, lead to lack of source of water in my body. The best part about the month of Ramadhan is Bazaar Ramadhan :D

Bazaar Ramadhan at Desa Ilmu Kota Samarahan

Kuih Celorot

Bazaar Ramadhan offers varieties choices of food and beverages. Some stalls might sell the food with an expensive price compare to the other stalls, beware of that. The ‘kuih’ that I like the most is Celorot, a typical Sarawakian Malay’s ‘kuih’. But sadly it always sold out due to less stall sell it and it is too popular ‘kuih’ in my states of Sarawak.

To conclude my short entry, Happy Fasting and Selamat Menyambut Ramadhan Al-Mubarak to all Muslim J

Gawai

Its been a long time I have not updated my blog...

Selamat Ari Gawai, Silamat Ngintu Andu Gawai.. Gawai’s greeting in Iban and Bidayuh language, and both have the same meaning. The slogan for Gawai is Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai.

Gawai is celebrated by Iban and Bidayuh ethnic in Sarawak and falls on 1st of June every year. Before 1960s (I guess) the Iban/Bidayuh celebrate Gawai did not use the date of 1st June, the date differ from one village to another village. Gawai in the olden days are more on ritual and offering as most of the Iban/Bidayuh are pagan/non-Christian (or animisme). Gawai also celebrated by some our fellow Dayaks at West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Now for example my village perform a prayer (Christian) from one house to another house as replacement to the old tradition of Gawai ritual that has link with pagan practice.

Every year is my family practice to go back to Serian (my grandparents’ house) to celebrate Gawai. On the 2nd day of Gawai we always go back to our original village at Kampung Bidak Mawang (halfway to Mongkos). Although I am Melanau, but most of my blood is Bidayuh, and I only can speak Bidayuh (Sadong/Serian dialect) but not Melanau.Sorry..

My Gawai ngabang’s route : Kpg Riih Daso – Kpg Tangga – Kpg Sungan – Kpg Temong (Tebedu) – Kpg Bidak Mawang/Plaman - Bunan Gega – Kpg Batu Bedang.

Such a hot day during ngabang.. And I don’t prefer much on sweet and soft drink..and also Kingway beer..as that brand are popular serve during Gawai.hehe.

*sorry if there are any wrong infos written above *

This Semester Break Plan

I hope I don’t get bored during this 2 months semester break. At least I got a part-time/full-time job at somewhere else, but not as banquet (or waiter as most people call it) at hotel, as it depends on availability of functions at the hotel. The month of April and May have no holiday, so less (or worst, no) functions are organised.

I feel want to work at 7-Eleven, and I just ask the cashier about the vacancy and gave me the vacancy form to fill. I fill it at home, it just need photocopy of IC, 2 passport photos and AMBANK ACCOUNT??? Alamak! I need to make another bank account, again?

Cannot expect that will be happen. I have no more cash to use bus to go somewhere else to find part-time job. But at least I try first at 7-Eleven.  I have not taken any passport photos, as mine one was no more. Hope that tomorrow can take passport photos without any problems, but not at BDC. Take passport photos at BDC is expensive, compared to other shops in Kuching. I don’t like it anyway.

Most of my friends went to KL for vacation. How nice J plus they fly there most of them bought cheap offer/promo ticket. But I feel ‘kesian’ with one of my friends, had to pay RM75 for excess luggage (over 7kg limit = 12 kg). I ask him whether he can bring the luggage into the cabin, but he said the check-in attendance say no.

Air Asia, why you ‘cekik darah’ your passengers? Although only excess with the weight of 0.5kg also you need to charge the passengers. Passengers late arrive at airport during after 3 minutes of check-in counter closed are not allowed to check-in, then you ask them to buy a new ticket. You sell the inflight meal so expensive using USD standard. Hey come on lah, most of the passengers are Malaysian that fly in Air Asia domestic flight, even the Caucasian need to budget their spending during vacation in Asia.

Luckily there is another new airline that launch last month ago, that is Malindo Air. Which offer the best service, almost like MAS but at a low fare, or maybe not-really-expensive-and-cheap-fare.hehe. No more monopoly on low-cost carrier in Malaysia :D
