Gawai

          Its been a long time I have not updated my blog...

        Selamat Ari Gawai, Silamat Ngintu Andu Gawai.. Gawai’s greeting in Iban and Bidayuh language, and both have the same meaning. The slogan for Gawai is Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai.

          Gawai is celebrated by Iban and Bidayuh ethnic in Sarawak and falls on 1^st of June every year. Before 1960s (I guess) the Iban/Bidayuh celebrate Gawai did not use the date of 1^st June, the date differ from one village to another village. Gawai in the olden days are more on ritual and offering as most of the Iban/Bidayuh are pagan/non-Christian (or animisme). Gawai also celebrated by some our fellow Dayaks at West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Now for example my village perform a prayer (Christian) from one house to another house as replacement to the old tradition of Gawai ritual that has link with pagan practice.

Every year is my family practice to go back to Serian (my grandparents’ house) to celebrate Gawai. On the 2^nd day of Gawai we always go back to our original village at Kampung Bidak Mawang (halfway to Mongkos). Although I am Melanau, but most of my blood is Bidayuh, and I only can speak Bidayuh (Sadong/Serian dialect) but not Melanau.Sorry..

My Gawai ngabang’s route : Kpg Riih Daso – Kpg Tangga – Kpg Sungan – Kpg Temong (Tebedu) – Kpg Bidak Mawang/Plaman - Bunan Gega – Kpg Batu Bedang.

Such a hot day during ngabang.. And I don’t prefer much on sweet and soft drink..and also Kingway beer..as that brand are popular serve during Gawai.hehe.

This Semester Break Plan

         

         I hope I don’t get bored during this 2 months semester break. At least I got a part-time/full-time job at somewhere else, but not as banquet (or waiter as most people call it) at hotel, as it depends on availability of functions at the hotel. The month of April and May have no holiday, so less (or worst, no) functions are organised.

          I feel want to work at 7-Eleven, and I just ask the cashier about the vacancy and gave me the vacancy form to fill. I fill it at home, it just need photocopy of IC, 2 passport photos and AMBANK ACCOUNT??? Alamak! I need to make another bank account, again?

          Cannot expect that will be happen. I have no more cash to use bus to go somewhere else to find part-time job. But at least I try first at 7-Eleven.  I have not taken any passport photos, as mine one was no more. Hope that tomorrow can take passport photos without any problems, but not at BDC. Take passport photos at BDC is expensive, compared to other shops in Kuching. I don’t like it anyway.

          Most of my friends went to KL for vacation. How nice J plus they fly there most of them bought cheap offer/promo ticket. But I feel ‘kesian’ with one of my friends, had to pay RM75 for excess luggage (over 7kg limit = 12 kg). I ask him whether he can bring the luggage into the cabin, but he said the check-in attendance say no.

          Air Asia, why you ‘cekik darah’ your passengers? Although only excess with the weight of 0.5kg also you need to charge the passengers. Passengers late arrive at airport during after 3 minutes of check-in counter closed are not allowed to check-in, then you ask them to buy a new ticket. You sell the inflight meal so expensive using USD standard. Hey come on lah, most of the passengers are Malaysian that fly in Air Asia domestic flight, even the Caucasian need to budget their spending during vacation in Asia.

          Luckily there is another new airline that launch last month ago, that is Malindo Air. Which offer the best service, almost like MAS but at a low fare, or maybe not-really-expensive-and-cheap-fare.hehe. No more monopoly on low-cost carrier in Malaysia :D 

The End of Final Exam, then the Start of Semester Break

Final exam now comes to the end. Not just final exam, but also the end for my Semester 2 in UiTM. My exam finish one day earlier, which is 13^th April. Some courses such as Public Admin and Account finish their exam at 14^th April.

          It is time to go home. For the 3 days last I illegally stayed at my friends’ room, ‘migrated’ from Block 4 to Block 1. There only a few things to bring back home.

          Before I go home, I have a plenty time to celebrate a simple birthday surprise with my friends. My best friend, Hadri, his birthday falls on 24^th April, 10 days after my birthday which is 14^th April. Our friend, Zati and her other friends planned it. Simple celebration but meaningful and had a precious moment with them.

          Goodbye Semester 2. Goodbye UiTM Samarahan, Goodbye to all lectures and friends. See you all on next semester and pray for the good exam result that will come out later. Sorry for all my wrongdoings J

2 More Papers to Go and 4 Days More To the End of Semester 2

Date/Time Written: 10^th April 2013, 0025.

            The time gone so fast and we never realise it. I cannot wait to end my second semester of my study. By then I can work part time job and get money.. Who knows, I might managed to buy new handphone.

          Left 2 more paper for my course (Diploma Building) and my batch. Subjects that are still left are Site Surveying (12^th April) and Structure (13^th April). Some courses finish earlier their paper. Early finish paper means less gap of exam day, but late finish paper means more gap of exam day (more free time to study). 

            But I have not submitted yet my class’ Miri report trip to HEA (Hal Ehwal Akademik). I hope they can accept the report without any problems, then FINISH. Hope this is the lesson for the next semester.

          I am at home right now, just done my third last paper just now, Building Science subject. Clear my things in my hostel room, and bring all of them back to my house. So that less things to be brought home on the last day. Dirty clothes need to be washed, this semester notes will be given to my junior. I will be staying at my friends’ room for these three days (11^th – 13^th April).

          I will start studying Site Surveying and Structure (perhaps) by this morning, hope so. Building Science exam paper just now almost similar to its past year question paper that I tried to do. Oh men! I should practice more on that past year, but I feel lazy to do it, only done certain questions. Who cares, exam paper is always mysterious.haha.

Hyperhidrosis a.k.a Over-Sweat -.-“

Date/Time Written: 10^th April 2013, 0031.

          Last time I don’t even care about this, I mean my illness. I thought it is normal. Okay, sweating is good for our body as it is part of respiration. But I am suffering from ‘hyperhidrosis’ or over-sweat.

          I am worrying about my body odour, although that I always use deodorant spray. As I walk only a few meters, my body is ‘crying’. Some people might thought that I run. Still I am sweating a lot, though that I don’t do any physical activities.

I feel uncomfortable every time, especially when standing with other students. Some might smell my body odour.OMG. I only can stop this sweat when in the air-conditioned place or under the fan to cool it down.

I hope there is a cure for it. Or someone can recommend the treatments for it.

Sinister (movie)

Two days ago, my family and me watched Sinister at MBO The Spring, which is quite scary for me. As the movie full of scary that can make the audiences in such a big shock manner.

But I love the story much although it is scary than I thought. The synopsis? I lazy to write so I just copy and paste from another source :

One of the shock and scary scene

Resort City of Sarawak, Miri

Miri has became my transit point since I was a baby until year 1997. My 'kampung' is at Bau and Serian, so my family and me have to fly (MAS' Twin Otter) from Limbang to Miri, transit at my cousin's house (now they're staying in Serian), then use bus/flight to Kuching.

Perhaps readers must be puzzled why I want to write about Miri. The reason is I eagerly wanted to go there for vacation, I mean Miri is one of my favourite destination in Malaysia. I don't know why but I feel there is something that make me eagerly to go there.

Some say the price of the groceries in Miri quite expensive (sorry to say, but please continue reading) compared to Kuching, as it popular among Bruneian for shopping. I am not sure about that, and I need to survey first. But I believe that there are a few shops sell things at competitive price.

I heard from my friends that are Mirian the best place to go to Miri is Luak Esplanade, Marina Bay, Petroleum Museum and so on. The best place to eat are at Muara restaurant and KFCK. Well both of these unavailable in Kuching, hehe. So I hope I can go to Miri with my enough budget.

Colleges in Miri are only Curtin University and ILP, I think so. Would it be nice if UiTM Sarawak campus is in Miri.

To travel there from Kuching we can use bus, which the long journey can took about 12 hours, while by flight might took 50 min to 1 hour.
