Resort City of Sarawak, Miri

Miri has became my transit point since I was a baby until year 1997. My 'kampung' is at Bau and Serian, so my family and me have to fly (MAS' Twin Otter) from Limbang to Miri, transit at my cousin's house (now they're staying in Serian), then use bus/flight to Kuching.

Perhaps readers must be puzzled why I want to write about Miri. The reason is I eagerly wanted to go there for vacation, I mean Miri is one of my favourite destination in Malaysia. I don't know why but I feel there is something that make me eagerly to go there.

Some say the price of the groceries in Miri quite expensive (sorry to say, but please continue reading) compared to Kuching, as it popular among Bruneian for shopping. I am not sure about that, and I need to survey first. But I believe that there are a few shops sell things at competitive price.

I heard from my friends that are Mirian the best place to go to Miri is Luak Esplanade, Marina Bay, Petroleum Museum and so on. The best place to eat are at Muara restaurant and KFCK. Well both of these unavailable in Kuching, hehe. So I hope I can go to Miri with my enough budget.

Colleges in Miri are only Curtin University and ILP, I think so. Would it be nice if UiTM Sarawak campus is in Miri.

To travel there from Kuching we can use bus, which the long journey can took about 12 hours, while by flight might took 50 min to 1 hour.

#start collecting money from right now. Miri, I'm waiting for you :D

Part-time Job

I got a call from a person that responsible in recruiting part-time worker of Four Points Hotel. And said, “Joshua, please come on Wednesday of 31st October, at 10 a.m., please wear black shoes and black pants...and so on... ”.

Nice but is my job will be daily basis or only on certain days? As the part-time job will only work for various function of the hotel and I was puzzled why it is start at 10 in the morning?

Just ignore all of that matters, the important is I got the job and salary to add up my cash for next semester, if enough I'll fly to Miri..or Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur..I'm dreaming too far.LOL.

#got motorcycle/car license then I can work further from my home.

Final Exam, then Semester Break (part 2)

20th October Afternoon,

Me and my schoolmates went back to UiTM to take some stuffs that left in my room. But I managed to call my friends to take my things (their things were included) and bring up to their room, as my roomate will go back early to Miri.

After that, I managed to meet and said goodbye to my West Malaysian friends that are waiting at Youth Floor for the bus to Kuching International Airport.

#could it be nice if UiTM Sarawak campus is at Miri, further than Kuching. So that I can use flight to go back to Kuching.hehe :P

Final Exam, then Semester Break (part 1)

Final exam has just finished, only 6 subjects. Not too difficult, and not too easy, just nice.. My exam's venue is not too far. But the gap of my exam days are too far apart (there were more plenty time to study), and the last exam was on 19th October. The other courses such as Nursing, Art and Design and others more were finished early, and they went back home very early, commenced their holiday earlier than us that were finished late.

Most of our lecturers gave us enough notes to study for final exam. When the final exam is near to the end, most of us as students packed their things, empty their certain stuffs in their locker as most of us cannot wait to go home.

Feel like last day in UiTM Samarahan, leaving friends for one month semester holiday. The results for whom are qualified for hostel next semester are out, and thank God I got it.

19th October Night,
Many of the Kuchingites (as well as from other places) students went back home this day. The hostel compound full of students' parents/friends/relatives car.

I went home on that night too with my friends, but with a rushing manner as it was last minutes and fortunately I managed to packed some of the stuffs. And luckily one of my friend from Selangor, Faiz help me to bring my things into my friends' rented car. After that, we have our dinner at RJ Ayam Bakar Kopitiam. And my ordered meal (Nasi Ayam Penyet) not so bad, but the 'sambal' is too little and no 'tempe', as the 'tempe' only accompanied with the Nasi Ayam Penyet Special which cost MYR 8, not worth at all.

#forgot to bring some things back home, left them at hostel.LOL -.-” the story continues...

Rage Comic - Merdeka..

last one is "..without war..MERDEKA!!!"

My Country, Malaysia :)

Most of Malaysian must be proud that they (including myself) are Malaysian. Well, I'm lucky to become nationality of Malaysia too. Both my parents born as Malaysian, and me too born as Malaysian, using blue Identity Card.

31st August 1957, the day Malaya gained independence from British after previously conquered by Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and lastly British.

"The effort for independence was spearheaded by Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, who led a delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya in negotiations with the British in London for Merdeka, or independence along with the first president of the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA) Tun Dato Sir Tan Cheng Lock and fifth President of Malaysian Indian Congress Tun V.T. Sambanthan. Once it became increasingly clear that the Communist threat posed during the Malayan Emergency was petering out, agreement was reached on February 8, 1956, for Malaya to gain independence from the British Empire. However, for a number of logistical and administrative reasons, it was decided that the official proclamation of independence would only be made the next year, on August 31, 1957, at Stadium Merdeka (Independence Stadium), in Kuala Lumpur.

On the night of August 30, 1957, crowds gathered at the Royal Selangor Club Padang in Kuala Lumpur to witness the handover of power from the British. Prime Minister-designate Tunku Abdul Rahman arrived at 11:58 pm and joined members of the Alliance Party's youth divisions in observing two minutes of darkness.[1] On the stroke of midnight, the lights were switched back on, and the Union Flag in the square was lowered. The new Flag of Malaya was raised as the national anthem Negaraku was played. This was followed by seven chants of 'Merdeka' by the crowd.Tunku Abdul Rahman gave a speech hailing the ceremony as "greatest moment in the life of the Malayan people".

On the morning of Saturday, August 31, 1957, the festivities moved to the newly completed Merdeka Stadium. More than 20,000 people witnessed the ceremony, which began at 9:30 am. Those in attendance included rulers of the Malay states, foreign dignitaries, members of the federal cabinet and citizens.[3] The Queen's representative, the Duke of Gloucester presented Tunku Abdul Rahman with the instrument of independence.[3] Tunku then proceeded to read the Proclamation of Independence, which culminated in the chanting of 'Merdeka' seven times with the crowd joining in. The ceremony continued with the raising of the National Flag of Malaya accompanied by the national anthem being played and a 21-gun salute, followed by an azan call and a thanksgiving prayer in honor of this great occasion."

-above is Merdeka day story on 31st August 1957, source from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hari_Merdeka -

"The Federation of Malaysia, comprising the States of Malaya, North Borneo (later renamed Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore was to be officially declared on the date August 31, 1963, on the 6th anniversary of Malayan independence. However, it was postponed to September 16, 1963, mainly due to Indonesian and the Philippines' opposition to the formation of Malaysia. Nevertheless, North Borneo and Singapore declared sovereignty on August 31, 1963. Indonesian opposition later escalated to a military conflict. Indonesia considered Malaysia as a new form of colonization on the provinces of Sarawak and Sabah in the island of Borneo (bordering Kalimantan, Indonesia), which they laid claim on.  To assure Indonesia that Malaysia was not a form of neo-colonialism, a referendum, organized by the United Nations, and the Cobbold Commission, led by Lord Cobbold, were formed to determine whether the people of Sabah and Sarawak wished to join Malaysia. Their eventual findings which indicated substantial support for Malaysia among the peoples of Sabah and Sarawak, cleared the way for the final proclamation of Malaysia.

The formation of the Federation of Malaysia was then announced on September 16, 1963 as Malaysia Day. The nationwide Independence Day celebration is still held on August 31, the original independence date of Malaya, while Malaysia Day was a public holiday only in East Malaysia. However, this has caused some minor discontent among East Malaysians in particular since it has been argued that celebrating the national day on August 31 is too Malaya-centric.In 2009, it was decided that starting 2010, Malaysia Day would be a nationwide public holiday in addition to Hari Merdeka on August 31."

31st August 2012 is over, now waiting for another Independence Day holiday at 16 September 2012....
Now the theme for Merdeka Day this year is 55 Tahun Merdeka, Janji Ditepati.

Raya Holiday...Mid-semester Break...

Most of my class start holiday by last Monday (13 August 2012), as most of my lecturer from West Malaysia are flew back to their hometown. Except for two, IDA class (for non-Muslim Students) and BEL (Basic English Language) Speaking Test.

Left a few days for all of my friends to go back to their own hometown... Also left a few days to fasting/puasa and berbuka puasa/sungkey (breaking fast) with my Muslim friends =(

Thursday, 16 August 2012, most of my West Malaysian and Sabahan (as well as Labuan) flew back to their hometown. So I met them at Kuching Airport.... Two of my friends said they slept at the airport since the night before..so cold sleep at the airport.

As I wait for their depature time, its like I'm waiting for my flight... and I also follow some of my friends check-in. To my surprise one of my friends paid RM 200 for her excess luggage charge. Damn expensive man! RM25 per kg. Better book excess luggage package (Air Asia) to prevent pay too much for it....

Almost 1 p.m., 3 of my friends enter to departure hall.... and I went home..

BEL120 (English) Speaking Test

Last Tuesday, my class hahad our speaking test before Raya holiday. Not sure if it is a real test or just a practice. It was held at our UiTM Library's Discussion Room. At first I thought the Speaking test is held at Block M. Fortunately I came early and I asked all of my group member to come early because most of the group finished their speaking test early. Different group different topic given.

Well, my group's speaking test was going a little bit smooth... Most of us shaking...feeling nervous.  But it is done....without any a few minutes silent, but only few seconds..

Instant Noodle No More :D

Most of asian society love to eat instant noodle...
And most of Malaysian love to eat varieties of instant noodle, consisted Manggi and Mie Sedaap as popular choices for Malaysian. Although rice is a staple food for Asian, but instant noodle may be a second staple food for asian.

But for me, I don't like to eat instant noodle anymore (except during emergency) since a few weeks me at UiTM. I rather eat rice, mee kolok or fried noodle (i mean not from instant noodle like Mie Sedap). After I ate instant noodle, make me feel want to vomit.. Thus, it can make us slower to catch up during lesson in class and made my head feel uncomfortable and itchy.

During PPKP LDK (Program Pembangunan dan Kepimpinan Pelajar, Latihan Dalam Kumpulan) (part of UiTM programme for all students every semester) programme, we debated about Spaghetti and Mi Segera/Instant Noodle, and the Spaghetti side won the debate, although the Mi Segera side said Spaghetti is more expensive and took more time to cook :P

Anyway, I just respect to who loves to eat instant noodle. Everyone has their own opinion right? Yeap :)

Last Time Pilot & Aircraft Engineer..Now Building....

When I was in primary school, I wanted to become a pilot. What makes me interest in aviation thing?
Well, here is my story; When I was a baby, my family and me stayed at SMK Limbang teachers' quarters.
That school situated near to Limbang's old airfield/small airport. And the airfield was small then, and using Pandaruan road as runway for little Twin Otter aircraft (not sure if it is real or not). Situated beside Bukit Mas. The old Limbang airport became my favourite place last time, and my father always bring me there.

memory of old small limbang airport
(source from : boyfromlimbang.blogspot.com and http://www.flickr.com/photos/billtimmins/25434749/)

The new Limbang airport was build a few years later after my family and me left Limbang to move to Sri Aman. Now Limbang airport not only can accommodate Twin Otter aircraft, but also ATR-72 of MasWings...

the new Limbang Airport

Well, that was the time I started to have passion in aviation.. During festive season (Gawai and Christmas) last time, my family and me flew from Limbang, transit and Miri..and proceed to Kuching by air/bus.

During my secondary school time, I changed mu ambition to aircraft maintenance engineer because I am not tall enough.

But when I received sms from UiTM UPU, the next day I checked my application results at UiTM's website, I got accepted into the course that I don't even know it's existent. That is Diploma in Building, at UiTM Samarahan Campus. At first I wanted to reject it. But after my uncle and my mother convined me,then after many hours later I accepted the offer from UiTM.

After a few days later I finally can adapted and like my Building course. Besides, it is not really a heavy subject compared to the other that related.

I hope I can continue my degree (and master hopefully) at UiTM Shah Alam on related course after my diploma.

My UiTM Life

I wake up early as 6.30 a.m., My class start at 8 a.m., except on Monday, which my class start at 10 a.m.. Previous week, I have to spend money on my breakfast at our cafetaria. Now, I save my budget by drinking Milo and eat CocoPie. Every morning I took hot water from my friends from next door to make Milo drink.

Mostly I followed my friends to our class/kuliah. Our block mainly at Block M, Block J and Block K. Block M is the most far block for my course. Another name for that block is Blok Akademik.

Here's our campus map :
http://sarawak.uitm.edu.my/images/stories/map_of_uitm_sarawak.jpg

But it's worth because after we walked we enter our air-conditioned classroom.

UiTM Samarahan Campus, Sarawak.

The food at cafetaria not bad at all. What about wifi? Hostel area don't have wifi, only at main block and some other block except hostel. We have washing machine at certain block of our hostel, but we have to insert RM2 coins to use it.

Behind of our hostel has a short cut to Desa Ilmu town of Samarahan, but only can be reach by foot. Most students buy food and other necessary things there.

Now I don't know what to write more :P

Goodbye Form 6....Hello UiTM

I woke up at 7 something in the morning. I packed all my things that needed for me to UiTM. Thank God I got accepted into UiTM, so that I can quit my Form 6 class. Although Form 6 syllabus is using new system, modular system (equivalent with Pre-U, foundation/asasi or A-Level), still consider tough to me. Actually all of my friends in Form Lower 6 and me are the first batch to use modular system for Form 6. When I was in Form 6, I entered Physical Class and the subject consist Pengajian Am, Mathematics (T), Physics, Chemistry and lastly MUET (Malaysian University English Test). I only did not enjoy Chemistry subject, subject that it is too complicated for me. I need to practice remembering those Chemistry's formulae and equation.

My aim was to become aircraft maintenance engineer. But when I got sms from UPU, they asked me to check my application at online.uitm.edu.my. As I check mine, I got offer of Diploma in Building from UiTM. At first I feel want to reject it, but both my uncle (as well as his wife) and mother convinced me to enter that course as that course is much more job demand compared to engineering fields. And my uncle said my Sciences and Math's foundation are not really good at all and one mistake when doing aircraft engineer can caused a risk of hundred or thousand lives in the aircraft. SI accept the course with open heart and both my uncle and my mother happy with my decision.

I managed to say goodbye to all my Lower Six Alpha class that morning after I asked my Penolong Kanan Tingkatan 6 to sign and stamped all my photocopies document for my registration at UiTM Kota Samarahan, Sarawak.

The registration was rather exhausting. You need to go to some block or building to send medical check-up form and register my hostel (Seri Mulu) or kolej kediaman. UiTM Kota Samarahan was nice and look like a fresh new building. And I love their colour scheme. Luckily I choosen to study at UiTM Kota Samarahan, if not (I apply for Mechanical Engineering in UiTM Penang) I have to book last minute flight with expensive fare to Penang. Although we ran through exhausting day, but it worth that I'm now officially UiTM Kota Samarahan student :)

UiTM is one of the most top 5 of IPTA in Malaysia for Bumiputra. Although we only pay for a much lower amount for the courses compared to other college, better still it offer high class quality of education:)

The food? Still OK and affordable. The library? Nice and complete, Internet access, TV and Astro were provided (some of the student watch EURO). Wifi? You need to register as student or staff first, hehe :P

Now I'm studying the first lecture (IT and Communication Skills, Diploma in Building) in my life and done my blogging project. This is my project :D

1st Day of PLKN – 1st January 2012

Who says PLKN is sucks? PLKN is not an army. PLKN is not that torturing the trainee. PLKN is stand for Program Latihan Khidmat Negara or National Service of Malaysia. Based on us (ex-trainee of PLKN) experiences, there is no such incident where the PLKN trainer torturing very much to the trainee. The activities are fun, interesting and it is just more than that.

Last month (December), I check my penempatan kem (located camp). And my located camp is Kem PLKN Jugra Banting Selangor Darul Ehsan. Nice, and I will fly there on the 1st of January 2012 (New Year Day).

I packed my bag one week before I go. On the 1st day, registration for trainee that will go to camp at Semantan, Bau, Serian, and Selangor (Princess Haliza, Millenium Beranang, Jugra Banting, Templer Rawang and etc). Then I board my bus and I meet new friends there from other school in Kuching. Our bus will send us to Kuching International Airport.

Arrived at airport, we proceed to the check-in counter. We make a few lines then given a briefing and boarding pass to check-in. After that, we entered boarding hall...as usual pass by the immigration counter (for passenger flight to West Malaysia, Sabah and international destination). Waited for a few hours, then we boarded our flight (ETD 1605 hrs), MH 2517 to Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

 Briefing b4 check-in

“Tuan-tuan dan puan-puan,selamat datang ke penerbangan MH 2517 ke Kuala Lumpur. Anak-anak kapal kami akan menunjukkan langkah-langkah keselamatan....”

As our flight ascending, me and other Kuchingite trainees will leave land of Sarawak until 17th March 2012. So kecewa my seat is not beside the window. The inflight meal served; nasi briyani ayam or sweet and sour fish (can choose between this two)...drink; orange juice, coffee and tea, soft drink (Sprite).

Our aircraft landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at about 5.45 p.m. After took our bag from baggage conveyor belt, again we berbaris at arrival hall. This is the second time I landed at KLIA since 12 years ago (primary 1) (always landed at Johor Bahru Senai Airport).

We board our bus to our camp; Kem Jugra Banting. Arrived there we register at the camp’s open hall and the jurulatih (trainer) spot check our luggage one by one. Then we have dinner at dewan makan, and we eat the unusual food for Sarawakian; Peparu Lembu....a local food..

And lastly we entered our assigned dorm, my Kompeni is Charlie, and my dorm is Charlie 2
